Dwarf Bear Knights

Or is it Bear Dwarf Knights? Or Dwarf Knights on Bears? ha ha

These are from TAG (The Assault Group). They aren't really the right shape for polar bears, so maybe they are a pale version of grizzlies or some species/variety of their own. Great blue bears from the frozen north (in honor of a departed online comrade in minis and gaming).

Also, proof that dwarves can be wizards (bonus figure from the KickStarter for the Bear Knights).

He is actually not the only dwarf wizard I have. I have an much older one, which I think is from the early Citadel days when they did have dwarf wizards.

Dwarves and Friends

Some miniatures from Northumbrian Tin Soldier.

First, a fancy dwarf, a Will Scarlet look-alike and his halfling assistant.

Then, four lady dwarves (more or less bearded)

Dwarves, Sci-fi, metal

A few dwarves from the Theoc Space Dwarves kickstarter.

These ones were trickier to assemble, with separate arms and weapons which didn't fit together well. Sticking them together with super glue and then sprinkling on baking soda before the glue cured seemed to do the trick.

These first 2 photos are the 6 dwarves I just finished painting.

And the whole crew/squad, including 8 others I painted some time ago.

Dwarf Lasses and Flying (Guinea) Pigs

Some dwarf lasses and flying guinea pigs, from Bad Squiddo minis.

(with GW elf and Bad Squiddo dwarf for scale)

Seven More Dwarves

My latest.
The free Reaper "Black" ogre from a couple of months ago.

Seven more dwarves from Lead Adventures. They have a good assortment of female dwarves as well as male ones. They fit in well with GW and Foundry dwarves.

Group shot (including some large candlesticks also from lead adventures - good for set dressing)

(sorry for the yellow cast to these pics. I don't know how to set my camera to balance the light when I don't use the flash indoors.)

All My Dwarves

I pulled out all of my painted dwarf miniatures (as far as I know) and set them out for a group shot. Some of these are at least 2 or 3 decades old. I do have more unpainted ones to add some day.

Dwarves and ...

Some assorted dwarves from Lead Adventures Miniatures, explorers, miners, etc., and a "friend" (dragon from Super Dungeon Explore, which I have had for a number of years).

The Nine Dwarves

Here's my latest, more old dwarves from Foundry (sculpted by Kev Adams, who is well-known for the many goblins he has done for Citadel/GW and others over the years, including some recent kickstarters).

The latest batch of 9 dwarves. All different, but I tried to tie them together by using the same general color palette.

Then the whole group, including 7 I painted some time ago (on the black squares). These were all from two boxed sets.

In the pics you can also see the cardboard insert from some electronics, which I think could be made into a terrain piece - the shape of this one looks like it might be good for a building complex.

More Dwarf Musketeers

More Iron Mask Dwarves. Musketeers from the forlorn hope, a couple of commanders and a halfling drummer.

A goblin veteran/leader (from Greenskin Wars kickstarter, sculpted by Kev Adams).

Rose Red and the Eight Bears

Well, bear knight dwarves. These figures were originally part of a kickstarter. Now available through The Assault Group. I recently realized that I had not received my set of these from the kickstarter so I contacted the person in charge of the project and he kindly sent me a replacement set.

They are nice single part metal miniatures that fit in well with the chunky GW style of old. There are the command figures (hornblower/bugler, banner-bearer, and leader - the latter does not come with a shield but his hand is raised in a 2 finger salute, so I added a shield myself), and a few regular troops with big hammers. The set I received also included the dwarf spear maiden, alluringly raising her skirt a bit to show a little leg. I didn't get very creative with the color scheme, mostly going with a similar scheme to the ones I have seen online, but maybe simpler.

More Dwarf Musketeers

More dwarf musketeers (with muskets this time) from Iron Mask Miniatures. I still have a good number of figures from them to paint.

And just for fun, these are all of the Iron Mask minis I have painted so far. Doesn't look like so many when I look at this, but they will grow in number over time.

More Space Dwarves

These ones are from the Theoc Space Dwarves kickstarter. There are some additional figures with separate arms and weapons, but I need to figure out how the arms should be attached. There is no clear peg and socket or anything. I suspect it will require some carving off of bits, pinning, and putty work. The ones here are all single-part all-in-one casting figures, which I usually prefer.

Command (maybe sergeant and lieutenant? or veteran/experienced?)
 One type of gun
A different type of gun

I tried something different with the guns, adding the non-metallic light blue; maybe these are some sort of laser or energy weapons?

And just for fun, a Komodo dragon from Reaper. Not sure why I got this or what I would use it for. I painted it based on a Komodo dragon I saw in a zoo recently.

Elves, Dwarves and Bears

These 2 wood elves are from Reaper. Maybe not clear from the angle, but the male elf is getting ready to fire a bow. The female has a lute strapped to her back.

More dwarves from Iron Mask Miniatures. Pikemen, and the first of the dwarves with muskets (the muskets have longer barrels, but they seemed too long to load so I cut them short).

A family of grizzly bears from Foundry.

Some chests from Super Dungeon Explore. I thought these could be useful in a variety of games, as background terrain "scatter" or as objectives.

Three Space Dwarves

Plastic/resin figures from Kromlech. The heads come separately, but are easy to attach with a sort of loose ball and socket connection. They also came with some little fiddly goggle things to go on their helmets, but I left those off for fear they would be too fragile. I plan to use one of the figures as stand-in for a crewman in some games (Five Parsecs from Home and/or Pulp Alley?), who is a space dwarf and former soldier.

When painting figures like this where a large portion of the figure is one color I often struggle with figuring out how much of it and which parts to paint other colors so they aren't too monotone. But at the same time I don't want it to get too fiddly or chaotic. Some of these have some sort of small cylinders in belts, like a belt for bullets, for example. I left the cylinders the same green as the uniform, so far. But not sure if I should. As these are meant for gaming rather than display I will probably leave them as is and call it done.

Eight Musketeers

I finished some more dwarf musketeers from Iron Mask Miniatures. Slowly building up enough to go from skirmishes to small battles.

These are metal figures, most with separate hands and heads. I like how easily the pieces fit together. The joins aren't precise, but don't need to be. The heads fit onto stumps of necks on the torsos, and the usually gloved hands fit onto stumps at the ends of the arms, with plenty of surface area to hold quite well. The only thing I don't care much for is how thing some of the weapons are; prone to bending often. In those cases I have clipped off the sculpted blade, drilled a whole and inserted a piece of wire/paperclip in place of the blade.

Seven Dwarves

From the Foundry Mighty Dwarves of Legend boxed set of Veteran Dwarves. Good solid chunky metal dwarves. They make even GW dwarves look a bit underfed! ha ha

For an idea of size they are based on 3/4 inch (20mm) diameter washers.

Of Knights and Bunnies

The following figures were a stretch goal from the Dwarves at Arms kickstarter from Microcosm. The knights were a bit fiddly to put together, with separate heads, legs, arms, and shields. For added strength/stability I pinned a lot of the pieces, which made it even more fiddly.

First up, King Arthur, the killer bunny (with nasty pointy teeth), and the Black Knight (I did consider adding magnets to make the limbs removable, but see comments above about "fiddliness").

Of course, King Arthur needs his trusted Knights of the Round Table.

Sounds of sawing and hammering and construction off in the distance behind the trees...

I built the rabbit out of foamcore, clad with bamboo skewers, round wood craft pieces, parchment paper covering the head of foamcore, and cardboard ears. The wheels actually turn, although they are a bit wonky.
